In the early stages of embryonic development, the embryo consisted mainly of three germ layers (the ectoderm, the mesoderm, and the endoderm). Each one of these layers can differentiate to formulate more specific organs. In the ectoderm, cells differentiate to develop perceptive organs, nerve cells, the spinal cord, and the senses one after the other.
All sensing modalities are haptic modes, as the sense of touch is responsible for giving birth to all the other senses in the ectoderm. It is the first sense we acquire and the last one possibly to lose, and it serves as our first means of exploration.
Toddlers strongly tend to touch and grab objects with their little fingers, which allows them to store a cumulative library of materials and muscular memory. We ceased engaging in a fruitful haptic way since the things around us encourage the retinal and repress the haptic. Our tools, gadgets, places, and lifestyles act as agencies to fulfill the vision.
